Wall Street Journal names WAN optimisation specialist Silver Peak 'Next Big Thing'
WAN Optimisation leader makes second annual list of venture-backed companies with greatest promise to succeed
For the second consecutive year, Silver Peak Systems, the leader in data centre class wide area network (WAN) optimisation, has been named on the Wall Street Journal’s Next Big Thing list, which ranks the top venture-backed companies across all industries. Silver Peak is one of only 14 returning companies to the list of 5,740 potential candidates evaluated.
Alan Murray, deputy managing editor of The Wall Street Journal said, “The Next Big Thing highlights companies that we believe are worth watching and have a chance to make waves in their industry.”
The list, compiled by research firm VentureSource, a unit of Journal owner News Corp., seeks to pinpoint the 50 U.S. venture-backed companies with the greatest promise to succeed. The rankings were calculated by applying a set of four financial criteria: the track records of success for a company's founders and management, the track records for the investors on its board, the amount of capital raised in the last three years, and the percentage change in a company's valuation in the last year.
“Silver Peak’s momentum continues to build and we are honoured to be named in the Wall Street Journal’s prestigious Next Big Thing list,” said Larry Cormier, senior vice president of worldwide marketing for Silver Peak. “Our success is rooted in exceeding the demands and expectations our customers have for WAN optimisation. The requirements for WAN optimisation are evolving and only Silver Peak is in a position to provide the data centre class capabilities needed to address today’s pressing IT initiatives such as disaster recovery, VDI, and cloud computing.”
