Leetaru of the University of Illinois, discuss creation of the first-ever historical mapping and exploration of the fulltext contents of the English-language edition of Wikipedia, in time and space, with visualization of modern history captured in its four million pages, in under a day. All done on SGI UV 2000, the Big Brain computer.

German TV Broadcaster RTL II Accelerates Content Delivery with Storage Solutions from SGI

RTL II is a German-language private TV company operated by RTL2 Fernsehen GmbH & Co. KG which offers a full schedule of programming for Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Luxembourg. The programmes are delivered via cable networks, DVB-T and satellite. The company, which was founded in 1993 and has about 150 employees, is headquartered in Grünwald near Munich, whilst news programmes are produced in Cologne. The main shareholders in RTL II are the RTL Group, the Bauer Media Group and the Tele München Group; Burda GmbH holds a stake of 1.1 percent.

SGI, the trusted leader in technical computing, announced today that Japan'sNational Institute of Genetics, an information and systems research organization located in Mishima, Shizuoka, under the leadership of Director-General Yuji Kohara, has selected an SGI® UV™ 1000, the top model in the SGI UV series, for a new supercomputer system. Featuring 768 processor cores 10TB of memory, the system will function as a server for next-generation sequencing data analysis.
